Tautuktavuk (What We See), Carol Kunnuk & Lucy Tulugarjuk
After experiencing a traumatic event in Igloolik (an Inuit hamlet in Foxe Basin, Qikiqtaaluk Region in Nunavut), Uyarak leaves her community and family in Nunavut to live in Montréal. When COVID-19 lockdowns close off the Canadian Arctic from the rest of the world, Uyarak is further separated from her closest friend, eldest sister, Saqpinak. This extreme situation blurs the lines of both the fictional lives of the sisters, and the non-fiction lives of the film’s directors, Lucy Tulugarjuk and Carol Kunnuk, who play the sisters.

This March, Cinema at the Museum presents a series of films in honour of International Women’s Day and Women’s History Month with a selection of films from groundbreaking and innovative women directors. These films create expansive dialogues that speak to family, isolation, autonomy, identity, guilt, friendship, social expectations, and tradition, all through various lenses that focus on the experiences of women.
This film was selected by our film programming team from the 2023 Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF).
Film tickets are $10 at the front desk; free admission for members and youth under 18. Seating is first come, first served.
Talks, tours and other events are admission by donation or free with membership.
