Fireside with Lyndon returns this month with special guests Fallon Farinacci and Colleen Whitedeer. Fireside is a free series that offers opportunities for community gathering and discussion, hosted by Lyndon J Linklater. Everyone is invited to join and no registration is required. About the Guests
Fallon Farinacci is Red River Métis, and a child survivor, advocate and speaker on Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls and 2SLGBTQQIA+ people. She testified in the National Inquiry for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls, sharing her own story of loss and trauma. In January of 1993, both of her parents were killed in a murder-suicide that shocked the small Métis community of St. Eustache, MB. Fallon joined The National Family Advisory Circle, where she worked closely with other MMIWG2SLGBTQQIA+ family members and the Commissioners for the National Inquiry. She continues to share her family’s story and bring awareness to the ongoing genocide Indigenous women, girls and Two Spirit folx face in hopes of bringing change and awareness across Turtle Island.
Colleen Whitedeer from Fond Du Lac Denesuline First Nation has been a strong advocate for Murdered and Missing Indigenous Men since the murder of her eldest brother in the late 1990s and the disappearance of her younger brother Timothy K. Charlette in 2014. In 2015, she spearheaded a walk from Prince Albert to Regina, the first of many walks to bring more attention to Missing & Murdered Indigenous Men. She has met with the Saskatchewan Minister of Justice and Attorney General, met with various organizations in Ottawa, and has been invited to many communities to share her journey and educate people about this issue that is often forgotten. She strives to serve her family, friends, and community with great love and to be a small part of ensuring a hopeful future for her children and young Indigenous generations to come.
