Artists/Facilitators

Wilfred Burton

Wilfred Burton, a proud Michif, grew up in the Midnight Lake area. He was a teacher for over 30 years and is currently retired. He spends his time doing contract work and volunteering in the community. He is a published author of several children’s picture books. His love of Métis storytelling, fiddle music and dance were a gift from his mother, Georgina Nolin. It’s a gift he loves to share with others through his presentations and writing.

Krystle Pederson

Krystle Pederson is a Cree/Métis singer, dancer, actor and musician with a remarkable career launched at a very young age. Born with the gift of music, Pederson polished her skills in multidisciplinary performance and shared the stage with many accomplished artists. She is a recipient of the SaskTel Aboriginal Youth Award and received the Saskatoon and Area Theatre Awards for Outstanding Emerging Artist and Outstanding Ensemble for her role in Sum Theatre’s Little Badger and the Fire Spirit. She has appeared in film and musical theatre and has toured provincially and nationally with several productions by the Saskatchewan Native Theatre Company. As an interdisciplinary artist, Krystle is a proud ambassador for Métis culture; she has performed as a singer and dancer at the John Arcand Fiddle Fest and has taught Métis dance in schools and community groups in Saskatoon and across Saskatchewan. She is also a member of the Iskwew Singers, a women’s traditional hand drum group.

Cort Dogniez

Cort Dogniez is a Métis man born and raised in Saskatoon. He was an educator/administrator for 41 years until his retirement in 2020.  Cort was fortunate growing up listening to his kohkom’s stories about her life and family history. It is now Cort’s turn to honour those stories and pass them on to his family, relatives, friends and anyone interested in learning more about Métis people.  Cort loves oral storytelling and has a repertoire of stories for all ages. His first children’s book, Road to La Prairie Ronde was nominated for two Saskatchewan Book Awards in 2021.

Tristen Durocher

Tristen Durocher is a 26-year-old Métis fiddler from Buffalo Narrows, Saskatchewan. After picking up the fiddle at the age of 9, he began attending the John Arcand Fiddle Fest in Saskatoon, learning from fiddle teachers from across Canada. Writing, reading, photography, and teaching are his central passions. Durocher has taught fiddle in Leaf Rapids, Brochet, Lynn Lake, South Indian Lake and Gilliam as an instructor for the Frontier Fiddle Program in Northern Manitoba. He now lives in Saskatoon as he pursues a teaching degree.
