Alexine McLeod: RBC Emerging Artist Series

Launching in 2017, the annual RBC Emerging Artist Series provides support for the production of a new project at Remai Modern. Taking full advantage of the museum’s architectural spaces, the projects will be sited throughout the museum, and may include site-specific installations, new-media works, publishing initiatives, interventions or performances.

Where

Remai Modern

The inaugural RBC Emerging Artist Series project is by Alexine McLeod. Working with found objects and digital projectors, McLeod creates wall-based assemblages that explore the edges of vision and materiality. Drawing on her previous experience with collage and photography, the artist uses layered materials and angled light to collapse and expand space. McLeod finds cast-off objects in urban environment and second-hand stores, and some components for her project at Remai Modern were sourced in Saskatoon. The objects’ histories and personalities are animated and revealed, coming forward as actors in the illuminated composition. Dynamic and responsive, McLeod’s installation brings focus to the shifting relationships between art, architecture and viewer.
