Black Ice Sound: The Music of Composer Carmen Braden

Black Ice Sound features the music of eclectic Yellowknife-based composer, Carmen Braden. A versatile, genre-jumping musician from the Canadian sub-arctic, Braden is an in-demand performer and composer. Hailed as “a talented, bold musician” (Up Here Magazine), Braden is a life-long Northerner whose music has been described as “drop-dead gorgeous” (Ottawa Citizen). Braden is the recipient of the 2019 and 2020 Western Canadian Music Award for Classical Composer of the Year.  

This concert will also feature the premiere of a new commission by Saskatchewan composer Tiess McKenzie. This music is performed by the Strata Ensemble, a new music ensemble made up of some of the best performers in the province.
