John Cage: Song Books with Helen Pridmore
Curator’s Tour and Performance
Join us on Thursday, July 25 at 7 PM for a tour of Other Arrangements with curator, Troy Gronsdahl, and a special performance of John Cage, Song Books, by soprano Helen Pridmore.
Song Books is a collection of short works for solo voice composed by John Cage in 1970. It contains pieces of four kinds: songs, songs using electronics, directions for a theatrical performance, and directions for a theatrical performance with electronics. Any number of solos may be performed in any order.
Pridmore has performed as a soloist and chamber musician across Canada and the U.S., and in Japan, the UK and Germany. With a focus on contemporary scored music, experimental music and improvisation, she has performed the work of John Cage many times, including her debut at Carnegie Hall with the American Symphony Orchestra in 2012.
