Shelley Niro and Ruth Cuthand: In Conversation
Established artists Shelley Niro and Ruth Cuthand work across media that includes photography, video, painting, and installation, and their work separately explores themes of place, colonialism, community, relations, and resistance. Both artists have known each other for decades resulting in a friendship that has occasionally culminated in artistic collaboration. At a moment when both have retrospectives that provide overviews of two singular and dynamic practices, the artists will join in conversation to reflect on their careers, friendship, and points of confluence and divergence in their respective approaches to artmaking. Moderated by Tarah Hogue, Remai Modern’s Adjunct Curator, Indigenous Art.
