Sofia Mycyk: Vexations
As part of the exhibition Other Arrangements, pianist Sofia Mycyk will enact a number of works in the Feature Gallery including a marathon, two-day performance of Erik Satie’s Vexations.
Satie’s 1893 composition is an enigma. It is suggested in the original manuscript that his half-page score be repeated 840 times. The demands of the composition remained untested until its first public performance in 1963. Organized by American composer John Cage and performed by a team of artists working in shifts, the concert took 18 hours to complete. At Remai Modern, Mycyk will perform the piece over two days, starting Saturday evening at LUGO Light and finishing the following Sunday.
