Story Bundles: Métis Embroidery and Needlework
Visit with and learn about the historic and traditional art of Métis embroidery from silk and needlework artist Roxanne Fischer. Taught by her old Michif aunties, Fischer is one of the few people who still practices this fine silk work. She comes from a family of silk and beadwork artists and will share family stories and history as well as some rare heirloom pieces.

Story Bundles is a series of six events held in conjunction with the exhibition Storied Objects: Métis Art in Relation. Produced by The Crossing Theatre Company, this series highlights the various ways Metis stories are shared. Participate and learn with Metis community members through visiting, humour, singing, dancing, fiddle music and sharing food. This Story Bundles event will be accompanied by fiddle player Jordan Daniels to showcase the storytelling nature of fiddle music.
About the Facilitators
Roxanne Fischer
Fischer was born and spent her early childhood in Big River, Saskatchewan. She grew up in a thriving urban Métis community in Edmonton where she learned from more amazing and awesome Métis aunties. She moved backed to Saskatchewan (Gabriel’s Crossing, Batoche) with her family in 1980. Fischer graduated from the University of Saskatchewan and retired from Federal Service in 2019.
Jordan Daniels
Daniels was born and raised in Saskatoon but is also a proud member of Mistawasis Nehiyawak. He has been playing fiddle since he was 10 years old and has been under the guidance of John Arcand ever since. Currently Daniels is a student at the University of Saskatchewan, studying Indigenous Studies combined with Archaeology/Anthropology. Daniels loves to play old-time Métis tunes and share his music with anyone who wants wants to listen.
